WELCOME TO AGROCONTINENTAL

Dear Farming Friends and Colleagues!

Russia is an exciting and challenging country in which to live and work. In twenty-five years of my experience, first in the USSR and then in the Russian Federation, I have seen huge changes, many for the good and a few to the detriment of progress. There are surely many more changes ahead before well-being and prosperity are established across this immense and resourceful nation.

One area which has been hit particularly badly by the many upheavals is agriculture. The vast State and collective farms of the Soviet era collapsed one after the other into bankruptcy. Some were split up piece-meal into private holdings or hived off to the former workers, deprived of cash and modern machinery; a few were acquired by agro-holdings. Enormous tracts of land were bought up by private owners as speculative investments and now lie idle. Good farm land has gone to weed.

On the one hand this picture presents a mammoth task to set right; on the other it affords an opportunity to cash in, at a time when money and expertise combined can produce quick results. Consumer demand for basic food commodities is consistently rising and quality produce ensures good prices. Russia will once again become a net exporter of grain and probably in a few years of poultry and pork meat. Where there has been investment in machinery, farm technology and qualified management, those farms have been showing rapid development and good profits. Over the last five or six years there has been a noticeable increase in investment in farms growing organic produce, a fast-growing niche market.

The International Farmers Club of Russia “AGROCONTINENTAL” set out as its main goal to assist in the development of the agricultural sector in Russia. The job is huge and the potential is correspondingly massive as you can imagine. Without foreign involvement and support in the technical and financial areas, Russian farmers will not meet all the challenges, particularly following entry to the WTO.

We are about to launch our new portal as our flagship project “Agro2day” for creating real dialogue and incentive for those looking to be part of action. There are opportunities for entry at all levels.

Our first task is to open the section of the portal on Training and Education. We must raise awareness and improve the skills base by making training accessible to Russian managers and employees at all levels and in all branches of the Industry, on a single integrated platform!

If you have material or training courses, we are looking now to populate our Training Section of the portal with content and information about education courses, either in Russia or abroad. Please get in touch URGENTLY if you think you can help! Our contact details are in the presentation documents attached.

In shaping up the outlook of farmers in Russia the daily grind and struggle to not just make ends meet but also to bring in a profit are at stake. Experts worldwide look as though they are hovering over Russia’s numbers when it comes to farming and what the future of the agricultural sector has for farms that are small and medium in size.

Russia, an area of land with a tipping over 16 million square kilometers has what seems to be more than enough space for each sector of society to develop, including agriculture. However, according to the CIA’s World Fact Book, a tad bit over 7 percent of that is arable land, which would be suitable for harvesting crops and making gains in the field.

Today Russian Agriculture must compete on the World level. Why? There are many reasons - WTO membership, consumers requirements and many others, but this is not a topic of today's discussion. Today I would like to point out that majority of ag producers effectiveness and productivity are below the World level and discuss how to overcome these problems.

From my point of view this problem should be a focal point of attention of Government, Science, banks, processors, associations and farmers. Everybody, who wants to provide food security for Russia should be involved.

Why do I think that this important? Because American farmers are concern about their effectiveness and productivity. Now I want to tell you about farmers concerns and how to increase yield and reduce cost of production.

Dear Club Members and Friends!

The International Farmers Club of Russia AGROCONTINENTAL is pleased to announce the launch of its latest project initiative “AGRO-TRAINING”.

It is no secret that the Russian agriculture market is attracting an increasing amount of interest from potential investors, both locally and internationally. Russia still currently has a huge bank of  un-utilized and un-worked farmland. Development of the sector is further impeded by a lack of skills, know-how and technology.  There is furthermore no adequate instrument for dealing with the necessary knowledge transfer for those wishing to create and develop new farm business.
